Gothic Studies is pleased to announce a number of editorial positions:
**2 x ASSOCIATE EDITOR OPPORTUNITY**
Gothic Studies, the journal of the International Gothic Association, seeks two Associate Editors to join its editorial team.
This role is intended for a scholar already in possession of a PhD on the Gothic but at any stage of their post-PhD career.
You should have some experience in academic editing and/or a strong publication record (indicating that they have been through and are familiar with various editorial processes).
Familiarity with using social media platforms is desirable.
Ideally you will already be a member of the IGA.
The main duties for both associate editors include managing Special Issues from start to publication (guiding Guest Editors, copyediting, typescript preparation, proofs); assisting the General Co-Editors with the future publishing schedule; maintaining up-to-date records; supporting the promotion of the journal on social media and in other forums such as conferences. One Associate Editor will have main duties including managing our biennial Early Career Essay Prize. The other Associate Editor will offer more support with peer reviews and editing of general articles.
This opportunity attracts an annual honorarium of £200 per Associate Editor.
To apply, please write to gothiceditors@gmail.com with the subject line “Associate Editor Position”, attaching a short (2-page) CV and a short covering letter outlining your interest in and suitability for the post.
The deadline is Monday 2nd November 2026. If shortlisted, we will require one academic or professional reference from someone familiar with your previous or equivalent editorial work. Shortlisted applicants will attend a short online interview in late November/early December.
Any queries should be directed to the Co-Editors at gothiceditors@gmail.com.
AND
**1 x NORTH AMERICAN REVIEWS EDITOR opportunity**
Gothic Studies, the journal of the International Gothic Association, seeks a reviews editor (North America) to join its editorial team and work alongside the UK/Europe reviews editor.
Duties include securing reviewers of new scholarly books in the field of the Gothic; liaising with publishers for copies of the books; editing reviews and preparing them for the journal issue typescript.
The reviews editor may be working towards or already possess a PhD in Gothic studies.
While your post does not necessarily need to be a permanent/tenured one (doctoral students may, for instance, apply), it is a requirement that the editor is based, and has a fairly regular physical presence, at a North American Higher Education institution for the purposes of receiving and posting books.
You will have some familiarity with professional and/or academic editing and strong organisational and communication skills.
Ideally you will already be a member of the IGA.
This opportunity attracts an annual honorarium of £200 or equivalent (via Paypal).
